Absences/Tardies

ATTENDANCE
If your child is going to be absent, please call the office at 629-1290.
If you know in advance that your child will be absent, please send a note to the office.
If the school office does not have notification of a student's absence, parents will be called to confirm the absence.
An absence will be unexcused unless a phone call or a note are received in the office.
If the student will be absent for more than two days, please call the school office to arrange for homework assignments to be picked up.'

Guidelines for Attendance:
For Absences:

  1. Monitored monthly
  2. A written notice or phone call must be turned in within 48 hours of the absence for it to be excused
  3. Letter sent out monthly for families with 5 or more absences (excused or unexcused)
  4. If a pattern appears, families will be asked to conference with the school and develop a plan to help the family
  5. If a pattern continues for having excessive absences, the students will be referred to Island County Juvenile Court Truancy Intervention Program
  6. If a student has 5 unexcused absences within a month or 10 days for the year, a petition will be filed to the Island County Juvenile Court Truancy Intervention Program stating the student as a truant and possible court action may take place

For Tardies:

  1. Monitored Monthly
  2. Ifstudent arrives 9:00 am - 10:30 am it is considered a tardy. (Wed: if student arrives 10:20 am - 11:00 am, it is considered a tardy).
  3. If student arrives after 10:30 am, it is considered a morning absence. (Wed: if student arrives after 11:00 am, it is considered a morning absence.
  4. A written notice or phone call must be turned in within 48 hours of the tardy for it to be excused.
  5. Letters sent out monthly for families with 5 or more tardies (excused or unexcused).
  6. If a pattern appears, families will be asked to conference with the school and develop a plan to help the family.
  7. If the pattern continues for excessive tardies, the students will be referred to Island County Juvenile Court Truancy Intervention Program.

For Early Dismissals:

  1. If early dismissal takes place before 2:00 pm, then it's marked as a half day of absence for the afternoon
  2. If early dismissal takes place after 2:00 pm, it's marked as a tardy for the second half of the day
  3. A written notice or phone call must be turned in within 48 hours of the absence/tardy for it to be excused
